After the lawsuit case of match.com from Las Vegas woman, the online dating safety problem becomes more serious than ever. When you decide to start online dating, the first and foremost thing you may think is not how to pick up the best date among millions of singles, but how to protect your own privacy and safety.
MillionaireCupid.com, one of the first millionaire dating service, started a deep investigation on the dating security problem in 2012, by surveying more than 2000 online daters in the millionaire dating network. In the full report which lasts more than 60 pages, they received the following main points:
1, About money. Money is the first and most popular aspect in all kinds of dating scams. If someone asks for money, no matter in what kind of forms, you should be aware of that the one you talk to is a scam, definitely. As time goes by, scammers are becoming more cunning. They may have different sad stories, urgent stories, travel stories… Once they are in need of money, you should remember to send them to blacklist, and report them to webmaster immediately. During the survey, 23.6% people showed their sympathy to these scammers, while about 2% sent money to these scammers, with the amount from $200 to $4500.
2, Getting too personal very quickly. Sometimes you may meet this situation: you just started to know each other, you will be asked to give your personal information; or you may be asked to call a number for further communication; or you may be asked to meet face to face at once. In online dating, you need to limit details such as your personal email, your home address, your home phone number, work place, etc. Or you may put yourself at risky. If your date love to ask lots of questions, especially personal questions, keep in mind that you may not want to disclose everything in detail. However, if you get to know each other very well, there won’t be such a limit. Anonymity is one of the advantages of online dating. Please don’t turn it into a big disadvantage by telling others your private information at the beginning.
